Regular maintenance of your Brinkmann grill is the most effective way to extend the life of all of its components. You should make sure to regularly clean off cooking surfaces, flavorizer bars (or heat shields), heating elements, and burners. Of course, none of your grill parts are designed to last forever, and eventually they’ll all need to be replaced. Here are a few ways to know when it’s time to change the burners on your Brinkmann grill.
The burner is the main conduit of heat for your gas grill. Combustion within your burners ignites the propane and distributes flames evenly. If you notice that your grill appears to be burning hotter in some areas than others, or if you have trouble getting it to light in the first place, then it might be telling you that there is a problem with the burners (or some other key component). Check the propane tank and the tubes that connect it to the burner. If these tubes have some sort of obstruction, then the grill might have trouble even if there’s nothing wrong with the burners.
Next, take out the burners and subject them to a thorough cleaning. The little holes that dot the edge of the burner are essential for heat distribution, but they can easily become clogged with food residue or other particles. Use a solution of water and vinegar along with a scrub brush to try to clean the burners. If the solution won’t get all the gunk off–or if it causes the burners to deteriorate further–then you can generally assume that they need to be replaced.
Time is another indicator you can rely on when deciding whether to change the burners on your Brinkmann grill. These parts can be made using a range of materials, and low-end burners won’t last as long as high-end ones. If your burners are made out of aluminized steel, you can assume their lifespan will be about 3-4 years. Burners made from cast brass or stainless steel, on the other hand, are better built for the long haul. If you don’t want to replace your burners as often, consider upgrading to a higher-quality material when you do go to change them.
